Moneyball, Punting and the Next Presidential Election

February 7, 2012  |  by MRIS_CMO

Now that the SuperBowl is behind us, I wanted to bring up an article I read not too long about a high school football coach from Arkansas. Kevin Kelley, Head Coach Of Pulaski Academy, is a proponent of a “philosophy (crazy) enough to make a grizzled coaching veteran have a stroke. He doesn’t punt, refuses to have his players return punts... Continue Reading

WSJ Reports Pres. Obama “punts” on Housing in State of the Union Speech

January 27, 2012  |  by MRIS_CMO

I’m sure I was not alone in hoping that the State of the Union speech featured some really solid plans and focus on the US housing market and the conundrum we’ve found ourselves in as real estate professionals. And while we’ve consistently reported stats that show the DC/Baltimore as one of the better markets in the US, we also know that all... Continue Reading

Real Time in the Digital Age

January 4, 2012  |  by MRIS_CMO

Last year, we created the marketing tagline “Real Estate in Real Time” for MRIS. This was part brand promise, part mission statement and part a call to action for the MRIS team to build tools and resources that support our customers in today’s digitally-driven markets. When I first saw this ATT television ad for a new mobile phone, I had... Continue Reading

U.S. Population Migrates From Coasts for ‘Gigantic’ Income Boost

December 27, 2011  |  by MRIS_CMO

Bloomberg Businessweek recently ran a very interesting article on population migration trends from the 2010 Census Bureau data. Click here for the full story.  Of primary interest is the comment: “About 1 in 9 people, or 11.6 percent, changed locations between 2010 and 2011, the lowest total since the government began tracking the figure in 1948, census data show. Men 25... Continue Reading

I happen to work for the industry’s most web-connected CEO. As a result, I need to be open to the daily flow new ideas and concepts that David finds on the web. Many times, he sources out trends or sites of major interest. For example, the other day he asked what I thought of a website called Houzz.  I had... Continue Reading

Apple Butter and the Real-Time Social Media Guru

December 6, 2011  |  by MRIS_CMO

So I’m working from home today (with a fractured patella) and there’s a firm, but polite, knock at the front door. As I open the door a friendly, well-dressed man introduces himself and hands me a jar of apple butter. “I’m just here to welcome you to the neighborhood and say hello” he says. We exchange introductions, talk quickly about... Continue Reading
