Chairman of the Board Jon Coile Pens Commentary For Washington Post Real Estate Section

July 22, 2013  |  by Ellen

Today’s real estate section for the Washington Post has an in-depth piece by MRIS Chairman Jon Coile in which he lays out in clear terms why the one percentage point increase in interest rates isn’t something buyers should be wary of. As he explains, “If you’re letting a $100 a month increase keep you from buying, you’re missing the forest for the trees.” He goes on to give several other examples of why this is a beneficial time for buyers—such as the fresh inventory that has replaced the many “investor specials” that recently took up a major share of the market and how prices are only going to keep rising so the sooner someone buys a property, the more money they will save. In the spirit of laying out all the facets to this discussion, he does take the time to point out situations where now is not the time to buy.
