Our series continues with the Greater Capital Area Association of REALTORS® (GCAAR) and its Chief Executive Officer, Mike Moran, who joined GCAAR in 2003. Mike has served the real estate industry for nearly thirty years on both the brokerage and association sides.
GCAAR serves members in Washington, DC and Montgomery County, Maryland. “We have two distinct jurisdictions in which we operate, and within each smaller market trends exist,” explains Mike. “One of our biggest challenges is to provide useful tools for the different needs of members working in these hyper-local markets and across state lines.”
So what is driving the team over at GCAAR? “We exist for our members. We strive to provide the highest quality services at a great value,” states Mike. “We work hard with our leadership to stay ahead of the game, especially in education, communications, and the political arena .We regularly solicit member feedback to hear what they need as the market and industry changes.”
GCAAR has a very active and engaged member base participating in the success of the association. “In 2011 we had a record number of members on our various committees looking at what services and products we can provide,” explains Mike. GCAAR also has three office locations, making it convenient for members to swing by to get what they need. “In addition to our class offerings for continuing education credit and designations, GCAAR has increased the number of professional development opportunities for members at all levels, from those new in the business to managers and brokers. Many of our programs are offered for free or at cost.”
Mirroring the generous actions of its members, GCAAR has grown its community involvement over the past few years. In recognition of these efforts, GCAAR’s Rebuilding Together project received the 2011 MAR Special Project Award and in 2010 the association received MAR’s Bronze CARES Award for the breadth of its community service involvement. “We are very proud of our members, and their active engagement in the communities in which they live and work.”
