Congratulations to Tara Winfree, Branch Vice President of Manassas Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, for winning the first-ever Adam D. Cockey Jr. Community Leader Award. Named after former MRIS Chairman of the Board, Adam D. Cockey, Jr., for dedicating over 40 years to philanthropic efforts, the award honors real estate professionals who have demonstrated an unsurpassed commitment to community service and activism.
Our selection committee was delighted to see so many nominations for amazing real estate professionals who are dedicating their time to helping others in their communities. Narrowing down the nominations was an extremely difficult process, but ultimately Tara Winfree was selected for her involvement with helping to feed underprivileged children in her community. Please read the press release here.
Victoria Baker, Tara’s co-worker who nominated her for this award, said: “Tara is an incredible individual who believes in supporting the people and community she lives in. She was the driving force in the implementation of a backpack food program at two local Reston schools because she found children in her community weren’t getting enough to eat on the weekends. She not only recognized the local issue of food shortage and implemented a program to address it, but she involved the community in helping her fund it.”
In a ceremony yesterday at the MRIS headquarters, Adam D. Cockey, Jr. presented Tara Winfree with the inaugural award for truly making a difference in her community. Tara received a standing ovation and inspired all of us… there were even tears shed when her nomination was read aloud.
Tara had so many inspirational things to say about how REALTORS® have several common traits, one being that they care about their community. “A real estate professional is more than a person who just lists and sells homes. We are the fabric of the community. We take pride in the neighborhoods we sell and specialize in. We can be found all around town, from stream cleanups to back-to-school nights to food drives. We live here, we work here, and we sell here. And, we want to make our community the best it can be,” said Tara Winfree. “I truly don’t deserve this award, all I did was see a need in my backyard – my town, my community, my friends, and all the volunteers and donors who came together to help me make a difference deserve this award.”
Adam D. Cockey was thrilled to present Tara with the award. “I am honored to have this award carry my name, and I am proud to see that so many real estate professionals in our industry give their time and money to various charitable foundations and communities to help those less fortunate. Tara embodies all of the qualities that this award represents.”
Please join us in congratulating Tara as well as the other two finalists: Tim Kagan of Kagan & Thompson, LLC (Easton, MD) and Christine Thomas of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage (Baltimore, MD).
