As Anne reported last week, we collected toys and donations for our local Toys for Tots drive and I’m blown away by everyone’s generosity. The Marines left our office on Friday with an astounding 326 toys and a total monetary contribution of $1,550, setting a new record for MRIS in the 10 years it has been donating. We also had 14 volunteers wrapping gifts over at the Community Ministries of Rockville and we were able to wrap all their gifts in record time.
Giving donations of time, toys and money is a big commitment in our current economy. According to a national survey released by the American Red Cross recently, 86 percent of Americans reported their personal finances are the same or worse than last year, yet 72 percent expect to give the same or more than last year to charity. I am thrilled that we were able to surpass our donation to Toys to Tots from last year and help little boys and girls have a very happy holiday.
A big thank you to all MRIS employees and friends for your support!
In the spirit of giving, I know many of our customers are big supporters of their local communities, and we’d love to hear some of your local stories on giving back during this holiday season. Post your story below or share your favorite holiday volunteering picture on Facebook!
