Since 1988, Carpenter’s Shelter has been a staple in the Alexandria community. Annually Carpenter’s Shelter serves over 1,000 homeless and formerly homeless individuals and families, providing much more than just a roof to live under. Carpenter’s Shelter works with each resident to create an individualized action plan to get them back on their feet and into permanent housing.
While at the shelter, residents attend financial literacy classes and learn new life skills. In order to begin a successful life outside the shelter walls, residents work with their case managers to identify the habits and factors which lead them to the shelter. After graduating from the residential program, residents continue to work through our continuum of care which provides another year of case management services and monthly refresher workshops.
Carpenter’s Shelter is proud to say that 90% of our Aftercare clients do not return to homelessness. We rely on the generosity of the community to support our mission to end homelessness and raise awareness in the DC metro area. Carpenter’s is thrilled to welcome MRIS into the Carpenter’s Shelter community and looks forward to a lasting partnership together.
